Education • Preparatory class in literature (CPGE - Hypokhâgne et khâgne) • Céline Sellier
2017-2019

Preparatory class in literature (CPGE • Hypokhâgne et khâgne)

— The AL-LSH preparatory class in literature encourages students to broaden their cultural background and their openness to the world, as well as to improve their skills in understanding, analyzing, synthesizing, and expressing themselves in each of the disciplines, without compartmentalizing

— The students develop solid written and oral expression skills, as well as a critical and methodical mind.

— This course focuses on the ENS Lyon competitive examination and the ENS Paris-Saclay foreign language-English competitive examination

Global organization: preparation for competitive exams and assessment methods

— One of the virtues of hypokhâgne is to give students solid work habits and methods, through weekly homework, individual oral questioning (the “khôlles”) and mock competitions.

— At the end of the second year, the student masters the technique of the dissertation, can enter university and pass public service exams (Capes, Agrégation, etc)

Teachings

— The courses were organized into a core curriculum of 18 hours per week (philosophy, French, history, geography, 2 modern languages, 1 classical language) along with a specialty chosen based on the student’s plans for future studies, representing 9 additional hours per week

— Foreign language specialization (English): literary theme, analysis of important texts of Anglo-Saxon culture, specific program in contemporary Anglo-American civilization. This close, meticulous and precise learning process allows students to develop tools to understand and analyze the world in a clear and diverse way, which is expected of professionals in today’s world

— In addition to the ENS of Lyon and Cachan, the major schools of management, communication, interpreting and translation show the greatest interest in students who have taken English as a specialization in khâgne, which indicates their interest in foreign countries and their desire to adapt

— Acquire solid writing skills as well as the ability to synthesize, thanks to a multidisciplinary education

— Acquire a solid general knowledge in all fields of the humanities and social sciences

— Prepare for academic and scientific methodologies in the fields studied in order to encourage accuracy, reasoning and autonomy required to continue studies in higher education.

— Consider future professional choices in a more enlightened way during two years thanks to excellent courses and meetings.

— Mastering several languages (French and foreign languages)
